It was October 2010, Jamie was rock climbing out in Moab, UT when we first connected online. After a few emails, a couple phone calls and awaiting his return from his trip we finally met and hit it off. Some of the first dates included climbing, hiking, and golfing, which all came with a lot of good times and many laughs!
It was around the 6 month mark in our relationship where we really started to talk about our desire to travel and we solidified this plan to take a break from careers, salaries, and the sense of security. We decided to leave the metro break downs, DC traffic, and the go go go of Northern Virginia. Sure, we were making good money and had a nice place to live, reliable cars, and we were traveling every weekend, and taking vacations here and there, but it wasn’t making us completely happy. We definitely enjoyed a good steak now and then, but even a mouth watering steak can only last so long……just like our health! We are both still young, healthy, and ready to take on a new adventure. So why wait? We thought it was time for a change. We decided to put the everyday, mundane stuff on hold….save some cash…..pack up and take off on an awesome trip!
It took some time to convince our families that taking a break from our careers would be a safe move, but soon enough they were on board and supporting us. The original plan was 18 months of non-stop travel around the globe: US, Australia, New Zealand, South America, South Africa and Europe. After much more thinking, some budgetary constraints (that is fancy lingo for we didn’t have the cash for all that!) we revamped it into 3 phases with intermittent stops back to the DC area. We know this time we have will fly by, but we also know this is not the one and only chance of a lifetime. Our pursuit of happiness will forever be the pursuit of experiencing and enjoying life. We all know life is short, the clock started ticking the minute we came into this world, and nobody knows when it will stop. We just want to make the most of our time on this planet!
This is our story and the purpose of our blog is to carry on our story and share our adventures with you. We hope you visit this site often and keep in touch as much as you can. We will be thinking of everyone all the time and welcome your visits along the way. Our friend Chuck is already meeting us in Thailand and Cathy’s family will be joining us in France!
The world is calling……so we’ve got to go……
